Airport Guide for Bulawayo International Airport

Bulawayo International Airport is also known as Josha Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport. This is a small airport facility and is mainly used to serve two airlines, namely Air Zimbabwe and South African Airways. Bulawayo International Airport conducts both national and international flights and is used for transit flights. The airport has two runways and can manage simultaneous flights connecting Zimbabwe to the rest of the world.

Bulawayo International Airport is a single terminal airport; a common terminal is used to manage both international and domestic flights. The passenger terminal is divided between the arrival and departure sections. International arrivals and domestic arrivals use the same arrival section, while International and domestic departures use the same departure section.

Checking in

After landing, passengers are taken to the Arrivals section of the Bulawayo International Airport. Check-in desks are installed at the entrance of the passenger terminal. There are around 6 international check-in counters. Passengers can receive their check-in receipts after showing the relevant documents.

Wi-Fi connection is provided to passengers free of cost at Bulawayo International Airport. There are payphones installed on the passenger terminal from where passengers can make worldwide calls.

Food and Drinks

There are 4 restaurants, one cafeteria and one bar located at Bulawayo International Airport. Restaurants serve an wide range of choices of food on the menu. Fast food is readily available along with tea and coffee. Smoking is permitted in the bar but not in other eating facilities.

Arrival Lounges

Arrival lounges at Bulawayo International Airport provide comfortable sitting areas where passengers can sit and relax. Wi-Fi and newspapers are provided in the arrival area. There are restroom facilities along with showering facilities near the arrival lounges. Disability access is also provided. The arrival lounges are air-conditioned as well.

Customs and Clearance

Customs and Clearance Department is located on the first floor of the passenger terminal. Passengers can receive their customs clearance after their luggage has been scanned and their documents have been verified.

The Duty Free Area at Bulawayo International Airport is small, but passengers can buy all essentials from there. Souvenir shop, spa, electronics, wine and chemist shops are located in the duty free area. There are a few clothing store too which sell local brands.


Luggage Collection Belt is located towards the exit of the passenger terminal. Luggage collection can be done from the luggage claim area. Missing or Damaged Luggage department is also located in the luggage claim area, and can be approached in case of damaged or lost luggage.

Moving Out of the Airport

After collecting their luggage, passengers can move out of the airport into the parking area. There is a shuttle service operated by the airport authorities to drive passengers to the city center. Taxis are also available which can be hired by passengers to drive them to their desired location.
